MOUNT MOSES AND ST. CATHERINE'S MONASTERY

The mountain is located on the Sinai Peninsula. On this mountain God appeared to Moses.

We organize an excursion to the Mount of Moses and a visit to the monastery of St. Catherine from Sharm El Sheikh from Sunday to Monday, from Wednesday to Thursday, from Friday to Saturday. Departure from hotels starts at 20:00, return back by 14:00 the next day.

Price:

• Adults pay - 25€ per person;
• Children from 5 to  12 years old - 15€;
• Children under 5 years old - free of charge.

At the top of Mount Moses are the Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and a small mosque. To the north of the church, under a rock, there is a small cave where, according to the Bible, Moses hid for forty days and nights. On the northern slope of the mountain are the Orthodox cave church of the Prophet Elijah and its well, as well as the Orthodox chapel of the Virgin. From the north, at the foot of the mountain, stands the monastery of St. Catherine.

An excursion to Mount Moses is an amazing opportunity to meet the dawn on its top, having made a spiritual cleansing, touching the ancient biblical legends and relics.

Tour program:

• Departure from the hotels of Sharm el-Sheikh to the foot of the mountain, and already after 2.5 hours you will start climbing;
• The length of the route to the top is about 7 km;
• After a three-hour climb, you will reach the top of the mountain and enjoy the most beautiful sunrise;
• You will have enough time for rest, a snack and, of course, beautiful photos for memory;
• Then the descent will begin and the second part of the excursion will be a visit to the monastery of St. Catherine, where you will visit the service, see ancient icons and frescoes;
• After that, you will be able to see one of the main shrines of the monastery - the burning Bush, as well as the well of Moses, the Basilica of the Transfiguration and the old refectory;
• You will also have the opportunity to visit the chapels, the crypt and the ancient cemetery;
•  Then departure back to Sharm El Sheikh.

Please note that the ascent is quite difficult and requires a certain amount of endurance and physical fitness! Not recommended for the elderly, people with cardiovascular diseases, as well as small children!

There are two lift options. First: a rather gentle serpentine road, at the end of which you will need to overcome another 750 steps. The second option is to rent a camel from the Bedouins and climb on it. This option is suitable for those who are not confident in their abilities.

The cost of the tour already includes:

• Transfer that will pick you up from the hotel and bring you back after the tour;
• Services guide;
• Mountain guide;
• Flashlight;
• Breakfast.

The price of the tour does not include:

• Entrance tickets to the museum of icons;
• Blanket rental;
• Visiting the toilet on the mountain;
• Climbing on a camel up to the steps (about 10-15€);

We recommend taking with you:

• PASSPORT
• comfortable clothes and shoes, headgear;
• PLEASE NOTE that you are preparing to visit a Holy Place, so your clothing must be appropriate! Short shorts and skirts, as well as too open T-shirts that do not cover the shoulders are not allowed!;
• lunch box (ordered in advance at the hotel reception);
• water or drinks;
• Sunglasses;
• money for additional expenses.
